To many, Dublin represents the best of Ireland’s character and culture. On the one hand, you have a city with well over a thousand years of history, stately Georgian architecture, and landmarks going back centuries and, on the other, you have a vibrant, lively and multicultural atmosphere, live music pumping nightly out of every venue, a friendly and hospitable people. And within that exciting city centre, you can find Europcar’s Mark Street location.
Dublin has a worthy reputation as one of Europe’s most energetic and captivating cities. The city’s character more than makes up for its less than sunny climate and the welcoming nature of the locals warms you against the occasionally brisk wind and rain. The city’s history stretches back beyond the Viking landings, over 1200 years ago, as its ancient defences and medieval castle can bear witness, although, over the centuries, Dublin has risen in stature through high times and low to become one of the preferred European destinations to visit. No one who spends time here feels it's ever wasted, and no one ever goes home without promising to visit again.
In addition to getting to know the locals in one or, more likely, several, of Dublin’s many pubs, experiencing some of the city’s well-known attractions is a must. There are various walking tours around the city, giving insight into many important historical events like the 1916 Easter Rising, or explaining the stories behind Dublin’s various statues and landmarks, or that follow in the footsteps of some of history’s most celebrated literary figures, such as Samuel Beckett, James Joyce and Oscar Wilde. Dublin Castle was the former centre of British rule in Ireland and still performs an important role today. The Guinness Storehouse celebrates the history and production of what must be Ireland’s most famous beverage, while Trinity College, founded in the 16th century and home to the ancient Book of Kells, is a beautiful structure to experience, as is Saint Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest church. Leinster House is the magnificent home to the Irish Parliament and well worth a visit.
