FAQ - New Zealand

On Thursday 26 th March, New Zealand will enter a Government enforced Level 4 lock down period of four weeks. Businesses servicing essential services will receive exemption to remain open.

Europcar locations will be closed to the public from Thursday, remaining available to support essential services rental requirements only.

Are Europcar locations still open?

No, due to Government enforced lock down, Europcar locations have temporarily closed from March 25th for the four week period. No new public rentals will be taken during this period, unless for the provision of essential services. Exceptions will be made to International travellers with a flight booked out of New Zealand.

I am an essential service, how do I make a booking?

Reservations can be made by booking online here or by emailing ecnz-sales.support@europcar.com. ID will need to be supplied on vehicle collection proving essential services employment.

What if I have a vehicle collection booked during the four week lock down period?

Unfortunately, as our locations will be closed, we will be unable to service any new rentals during the lock down period. If you already have a vehicle and would like to extend the booking, please contact us on 0800 800 115 to arrange the extension.

What if I want to extend my existing rental?

If you already have a vehicle on rent, we will aim to make contact with you prior to your return date to discuss the options to extend. Please feel free to make contact on 0800 800 115 to arrange the extension.

How do I return my vehicle now that your locations are closed?

Due to Government enforced travel restrictions, vehicles cannot be returned during the lock down period unless you have a valid outbound air ticket. We will attempt to contact customers to discuss your existing rental and options to extend until the lock down period ends. Please contact us on 0800 800 115 or ecnz-operations.support@europcar.com to discuss your rental further.

I have an International flight booked, can I rent a car to get to the airport?

The New Zealand Government has provided the following guidelines; foreign travellers with flights out of NZ can hire a car to get them directly to the airport within a 24 hour period. After booking, please email a copy of your airline ticket to ecnz-operations.support@europcar.com.

Those intending to travel must meet the below criteria before leaving their current self-isolation residence:

 

  • Have evidence of an international flight with them in the next 24 hours – and have the right to transit through any countries on their itinerary.
  • Are not diagnosed with COVID-19 (or have been declared as recovered by a medical doctor)
  • Do not have symptoms consistent with COVID-19
  • Are not awaiting results for COVID19 testing
  • Are not a close contact of a suspected/probable/confirmed case of COVID-19, and,
  • Have not travelled internationally within the last 14 days.
