Customer action required for travel between North & South Islands

Europcar vehicles are not permitted on ferries, therefore if you are planning to travel across both islands, you MUST contact Europcar who will organise for you to return your vehicle at the ferry terminal and pick up a new vehicle upon arrival on the other island.

Action required from you:

  • Book your ferry ticket as passenger only (NO car)*

  • Contact Europcar to advise of your reservation number AND ferry crossing details (date & time of arrival at ferry terminal)

*You will need to book a ferry which arrives during Europcar oce hours (08:00-17:00 hrs Monday to Sunday). Arrivals after opening hours will be required to collect the following day.

We cannot guarantee vehicle availability if you have not advised us of your ferry crossing details. Please contact Europcar no later than 5 days prior to your ferry crossing.

Example of booking for North to South Island travel:
  • Pick up at a Europcar location on the North Island, and return at Wellington Interislander Ferry Terminal.
  • Travel on the ferry (passenger only ticket). • Pick up at Europcar at the Picton Interislander Ferry Terminal and return at a Europcar location on the South Island.
Example of booking for South to North Island travel:
  • Pick up at a Europcar location on the South Island, and return at the Europcar oce at Picton Interislander Ferry Terminal.
  • Travel on the ferry (passenger only ticket).
  • Pick up at Wellington Interislander Ferry Terminal and return at any preferred location on the North Island.
When returning the vehicle to the Picton or Wellington ferry terminal, it must have a full tank of petrol
